I am a very traditional “salt, on-the-rocks” girl, but these blood orange margaritas are also great with a sugar rim! Feel free to use regular oranges, or another type of citrus, if blood oranges are out of season.

Blood Orange Margaritas
Instructions

|
Begin by juicing your blood oranges and limes. To make the margarita mix, combine the blood orange juice, lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, and simple syrup in a small pitcher. Taste, and add more simple syrup, alcohol, or juice as necessary. Refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.

To assemble the margaritas, place about 2 Tablespoons of margarita salt or sugar on a plate, and gently tap the plate to spread it out. Rub the rim of four margarita glasses with a wedge of lime. Press the rim of the glasses into the salt or sugar to ensure an even coat. Fill each glass with ice, and add 5.25 ounces of the margarita mix. Garnish with a blood orange wedge or lime wedge if desired. Serve immediately.

Tips & Tricks (5)
- Citrus Rim Perfection 🍊For the sugar rim, first moisten the glass edge with a blood orange slice for better sugar adhesion and enhanced citrus flavor.
- Blood Orange Selection 🍹Choose blood oranges that are firm but yield slightly when gently squeezed, ensuring maximum juice and sweetest flavor for your margarita.
- Chill Factor 🧊Pre-chill your margarita glasses in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to keep the cocktail crisp and refreshing from the first sip.
- Juice Extraction Hack 🍸Roll blood oranges on the counter before juicing to break down internal membranes and maximize juice yield with minimal effort.
- Balanced Sweetness 🍁If blood oranges are particularly tart, add a small splash of agave nectar to balance the cocktail's acidity and enhance overall flavor profile.
