Tater Tot Poutine

Sunday Table
Sunday Table

Tater Tot Poutine is a delightful Canadian twist on the classic comfort food, poutine. This recipe features crispy tater tots as a substitute for french fries and is topped with savory beef gravy and cheese curds. The dish is easy to make and can serve up to 2 people. The tater tots are baked until they are super crispy, and then they are smothered with a rich, flavorful beef gravy made with garlic, butter, flour, and beef broth. The gravy is seasoned with onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper, adding a depth of flavor to the dish. The tater tots are then topped with a generous amount of cheese curds, which are slightly melted under the broiler. A garnish of fresh parsley adds a touch of freshness to the dish. This dish is perfect to serve as a snack or as a side dish for a casual dinner party. To complete the meal, it is recommended to serve the Tater Tot Poutine with extra gravy and a cold beer.

  1. Step 1

Heat oven to 450* F. Place the tater tots on a greased baking sheet making sure the tater tots don’t touch. Bake for 15-20 minutes, flip, and bake for another 10-15 minutes. You want them to be super crispy but not burned.

  2. Step 2

Meanwhile, heat the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about one minute. Whisk in beef broth, salt, pepper, onion powder, and thyme. Stir until thickened. Keep warm.

  3. Step 3

Drizzle gravy over tater tots. Top with cheese curds, and broil it in the oven until the curds are slightly melted. Top with parsley, if desired.
